The ones who got away We wish were here today They were smart enough to know When it was time to go They could tell you were lacking And that's what sent them packing You know that it's true It would never have worked They're just too good for you The ones who left you Had better things to do Than wait for you to find A talent or ambition of some kind And the ones who stay You have to send away You know that it's true They would have to be flawed To put up with you Like gum stuck to my shoe I can't seem to get rid of you Maybe I should accept my lot And be happy with what I got Because the ones who got away Will not come back one day You know that it's true Once they're out the door They forget about you You know that it's true Once they're out the door They forget about you

I just lost another one Slipped through my fingers like salt I'd throw a pinch over my shoulder But it's not the devil's fault She was just such a smoky girl Slightest breeze and she's gone And she always made my eyes water If I stayed in her presence too long Kiss me while I'm down Crawling from the past Kiss me while I'm down It's gaining on me fast And I'm just such a smoky boy I'm bitter, transparent and grey Whenever you try to get close to me Your breath just blows me away. So don't try to kindle no flame in me Just leave me alone to smoulder I don't want to get smoke in your eyes And ashes can only get colder Kiss me while I'm down Crawling from the past Kiss me while I'm down It's gaining on me fast Kiss me while I'm down This wasn't build to last Kiss me while I'm down The feeling's fading fast Fast, it's fading fast... "You can't accuse me of cheating If you don't know the cards in my hand And if you do, then you're cheating too And that make you my kind of man" Those are the words she spoke The day that you helped me to flee I tried to warm you, but I should've warned you That the fire had all died in me Kiss me while I'm down Crawling from the past Kiss me while I'm down It's gaining on me fast Kiss me while I'm down This wasn't build to last Kiss me while I'm down The feeling's fading fast

It's a bad situation, you might as face it Like a bad memory, you can't erase it If it was a horse, I know you'd race it But it's more like a mule, why do you chase it? It's in your mouth and you can taste it You'd spit it out but don't want to waste it If you try to steal her heart in haste, it Will only peel off whatever you paste it It's a nagging suspicion and you can't place it 'Cause you've got nothing on which to base it If she didn't love you then She's not gonna when You release a thousand doves You're not the one she loves It's a bad situation, you can't ignore it You should curb your behavior long before it Reaches a state where even you deplore it She won't give you her heart, and if she did, How would you store it? It's fragile and flawed more than you think, it's Got holes in its hull, you could easily sink it But it's strong enough to go to the brink, it Will come back from the edge without a kink It's the finest of wine, but you'll never drink it It's a bad situation, don't even think it If you haven't won her love It won't be by virtue of childish threats and taunts You're not the one she wants She won't learn to love in time Nothing will change her mind You're not who she's dreaming of You're not the one she loves You're not the one she loves You're not the one she loves

about

Embellished, but pretty lo-fi, recordings of some audience favourites of my "unplugged" coffee house sets. These are the three songs I didn't re-record in a more stripped down manner for "Song of Lust and Pain", or polished up for "When I Don't Love You Anymore".
