One eye on the mailbox Waiting for the delivery Of a missive dismissive From across the sea I used to be waiting for our life to start Now I'm waiting for my world to crumble all apart Waiting for your phone call For your voice in my ear For you it's tomorrow morning But it's always midnight here I used to be waiting for your voice to warm my heart Now I'm waiting for my world to crumble all apart You drive you drive me places I know are off the charts Now I'm waiting for my world to crumble all apart It's gonna crumble It's gonna fall apary It's gonna crumble down

The airwaves are alight Wireheads vs indie-rockers tonight The phone lines are heating up Take us back to high school days When the new wave was all the craze The phone lines are heating up My eardrums are getting beaten up The phone lines are heating up The music isn't sweet enough In high school I must admit I had a crush on Robert Smith Well, honestly, who didn't When Johnny Marr's guitar was so glad Why was Morrissey always so sad Wasn't the music sweet enough To keep his heart from getting beaten up Wasn't the music sweet enough Maybe it was all a bluff Can anyone really be that melancholy? Can anyone really be as morose as Morrissey? The airwaves are alight Wireheads vs indie-rockers tonight The phone lines are heating up The radio tower is ablaze Vandalism's all the craze The airwaves are heating up My eardrums are getting beaten up The music isn't sweet enough My heart is getting beaten up

I wanna fly like Superman Do the special things he can Rid the world of crime and pain Marry a girl like Lois Lane I don't believe in happenstance Nothing happens just by chance It's fate I ended up a slave At the local Shop'n'Save Flunked out of university Because I watched too much TV So afraid of being bored Just let me watch five minutes more Five minutes more I wanna fly like Superman Do the special things he can Rid the world of crime and pain Marry a girl like Lois Lane I'm so afraid of being bored Just let me watch five minutes more It lets me know that I'm alive I'd better say my twenty-five Hail Mary Tyler Moores

Sneakers 04:45
She makes wear a bell So when I sneak up behind She can listen for the knell And sneak away in time In her sneakers, for sneaking Sneakers, for sneaking away Subterfuge takes its toll I never wore no rubber sole I never had no steel toes She dances in heels, but everybody knows She wears sneakers, for sneaking Sneakers, for sneaking away I don't sneak up no more She just sneaks out the door All I wanna do is talk But she finds it easier to walk In her sneakers, for sneaking Sneakers, for sneaking away

Unattractive 01:47
She said, "I don't find you attractive Because you don't find yourself attractive" I'm a victim of my own low self esteem And that is why she is not attracted to me I'm not attractive I'm unattractive She said, "Sex is supposed to be fun But you're not making it fun no more Your emotional threats make me a whore You you make it feel like it's such a bloody chore You are such a bore, boring to the core" She said, "I don't find you attractive Because you don't find yourself attractive" I'm a victim of my own low self esteem And that is why she is not attracted to me

Viewing Jar 03:12
In my closet I keep more than clothes I have a secret no one knows Maybe I will leap out and surprise you all Maybe I will let my disguise fall Maybe I will come out Maybe I will leap out Maybe I will come out this time Maybe I will come out Maybe I will leap out Maybe it will turn out just fine I'm gonna throw a party for all my friends And from the start until the end I'll be on display in a viewing jar See who looks away and who my real friends are Maybe they will cheer me Maybe they will fear me Maybe I will end up alone Maybe they will love me Maybe push and shove me Maybe they will pelt me with stones Maybe I will come out Maybe I will leap out Maybe I will come out this time Maybe I will come out Maybe I will leap out Maybe it will turn out just fine I'm gonna throw a party for all my friends And from the start until the very end I'll be on display in a viewing jar See who looks away and who my real friends are

Campus Rawk 02:57
Hey are you going back To school in the fall? Yeah, I wanna go back and learn it all I wanna find out What nobody knows Why sometimes your heart is open Why sometimes it's so closed Hey, you're not alone I myself am going back Taking out a student loan Getting myself back on track 'Cause I lost my way On the path that I chose Sometime's the future's open Sometimes it is so closed Maybe I will see you there Maybe I will see Maybe I will see you there Hey, will you be living In the dorms or off campus I know I'll be living On alcohol and cannabis I'm not there to learn I'm there to burn Sometimes I feel so grown up Sometimes I just feel spurned Maybe I will see you there Maybe I will see Maybe I will see you there On our campus in the air

Mama, I'm quitting the team I don't want to play anymore It's been so long since I score I'm just taking up space on the bench I don't like games I don't win Who likes games they never win You meet someone And you think they're interested in you You have fantastic conversations Over bagels and tea And the way they look at you Makes you feel shiny inside Like a glossy new magazine But don't hold your breath, brother Don't hold your breath, babydoll They say they'll call but they don't I'm tired of this game I'm quitting this team Don't pray they'll fall 'cause they won't I'm tired of this game I'm quitting this team Is there a time you stop falling? Is there a time you stop falling in love? They say you'll 'cause you won't I'm tired of this game I'm quitting this team Don't pray I'll fall 'cause I won't I'm tired of this game I'm quitting this team I'm tattered and torn I'm weathered and worn A dead heart ain't nothing to mourn

One More Day 03:27
If you go Don't leave today with the herd Tomorrow I'll be ready to say the words I've been shy for just too long Biding my time That is why you're moving on On down the line I love you There's nothing I can do But you could wait Just one more day If you go in the morning To catch the 8:05 So you know I'll be mourning, but I'll survive When he gives you That last kiss That's my kiss too On the platform In the dew mist That's my kiss too I love you There's nothing I can do But you could wait Just one more day If you go don't leave today Tomorrow's just one more day If you go don't leave today Tomorrow I'll be ready to say I love you There's nothing I can do But you could wait Just one more day

about

A collection of demos written for my '90s alt/indie-rock band, superPOP, but mostly after the final version of it had crumbled to dust. These were songs we never played live (though "Hail Mary Tyler Moore" is another version of "Lois Lane").

These crumbs were all recorded roughly 1995-99 (one or two a bit later). Instead of putting together a third (or fifth?) superPOP line-up, I decided to start recording solo as The Urbane Decay while performing "unplugged" (hey, it was still a thing at the time) as a solo acoustic singer-songwriter.
