about

In 2007 there was an infamous release party for our new CD, The Urbane Decay Has Never Kissed A Girl, held it in my apartment and to which I invited all the exes and crushes that I dissed in the songs.

"Gutsy set" a friend half-complimented, half-chastised me immediately afterwards.

I also proceeded to ask my most recent ex's current boyfriend to join the band, which shows I was pretty much out of my fucking mind at this point. The whole night was the indie-rock equivalent of some guy with entitlement issues anonymously calling girls who'd rejected him "sluts and bitches" on Internet message boards. Only it wasn't anonymous, just a very public dick move. More importantly, also in attendance was a potential girlfriend who then dubbed me "undateable" (as clearly I was) and when that got back to me, I started to evaluate my life, my attitudes and my music.

Immediate result: I rashly "broke up" The Urbane Decay by renaming us Die Schadenfreude and ditching all my autobiographical songs in favour of nonsensical garage-punk/sludge/grunge/noise-rock.

These songs were recorded sometime in 2007 on a Zoom H4 in the basement of The Yellow House with some guitar overdubs back at my apartment. The song all had lyrics which either Jamie or I would sing, but only King Kong got recorded and the rest are lost to time. I think they work better as instrumental noise rock anyway.
