Beauty Isn't Real

from Wilderness by The Urbane Decay

/

about

This was, in some way, meant to be an apology to my ex. In true fashion, I made it all about me. Though the concept of "beauty isn't real" has a nice Zen-like understanding that beauty is a cultural construct (I was getting into Taoism at the time), I'm not sure where I was going with the overall sentiment of the song—which is not very Tao. A Taoist shouldn't feel the world owes one anything.

lyrics

Dear sweet world
You have let me down
Even though you are bursting
With beauty, you have let me down

Your beauty isn't real
Beauty isn't real

Dear sweet girl
You have let me down
Even though you are bursting
With beauty, you have let me down

Because beauty isn't real
Beauty isn't real

It's nothing you can taste
It's nothing you can feel
It's nothing you can touch
Beauty isn't real

Dear sweet world
You have let me down
Even though you are bursting
With beauty, you have let me down
