about

Lyrically and conceptually, I think this is hands-down the best song I ever wrote. Too bad we sound so, so, so bored performing it. Anyway, it's the actual story of the affair behind the songs "Lunatic + Saturnine", "A Little Touch" and "For Nothing At All" from the "Depleted" album and the reason my ex referenced in the other songs on "Crushed" became my ex.

lyrics

Boy: you called and I came
knowing I shouldn’t be here again

Girl: in the middle of the night

Boy: it ain’t right

Girl: between scrabble

Boy: and green tea

Girl: a tentative touching of knees

Boy: sitting thigh to thigh

Girl: I’ve only got a ‘U’ and an ‘I’

Boy: silent fingers hesitantly entwine
unsure of what is meant

Girl: relax, what could be the harm in holding hands?

Boy: it’s sweet and innocent

Girl: we won’t break hearts

Boy: they’ll just get bent

Boy: I think she heard a ‘rumour’

Girl: eight points

Boy: no, it’s a double letter score

Girl: then I guess it’s nine

Boy: M-I yours?

Girl: R-U mine?

Girl: why did you put down ‘qualms’?

Boy: ‘q’ on a triple word score

Girl: why don’t you spell it out?

Boy: I have my ‘doubts’

Girl: do you want more?

Boy: silent bodies hesitantly entwine

Girl: this was never my intent

Boy: relax, it’s okay for friends to cuddle

Girl: this will end in discontent

Boy: we won’t break hearts

Girl: they’ll just get bent

Girl: i called

Boy: and I came

Girl: knowing you shouldn’t be here again

Boy: in the middle of the night

Girl: it ain’t right

Girl: I get six points for ‘try’

Boy: you’d get more for ‘goodbye’

Girl: I just don’t have the tiles

Boy: you’ve been hoarding them for a while

Girl: silent fingers hesitantly let go

Boy: without words or argument
relax, no fault no fowl and no harm

Girl: it wasn’t without incident

Both: broken hearts
start out bent
