about

This was about a girlfriend I was breaking up with. Like "This Stillness", it's based on, of all things, a quote from Spock on an episode of Star Trek. The girlfriend in question loathed Star Trek, by the way.

*This is the original demo version of this song and didn't appear on the original "Muzzy" EPs. A different version of this song appears as a bonus track on the "Dreambeat" album.

lyrics

"Having is not so pleasing as wanting..."

The having is not a pleasurable
As the wanting
It's not logical
But it's so often true

And I wanted you so badly
It's so often true
And I wanted to have you
I wanted to have you

I'm a lucky man
Not having what I wanted
And losing the pleasure
Of always being haunted
The pleasure true
Of being haunted by you...

"Having is not so pleasing as wanting. It's not logical but it's often true."
