about

This song was written about my long-distance girlfriend's basement apartment in Calgary. I hadn't yet been there. Like many aspects of that relationship, it was a fantasy I wanted to believe instead of trying to appreciate reality once it was presented to me.

lyrics

I want to see the colour of your eyes
Reflected in the window pane
When the only light is the sun, barely rising
And the only sound are the birds, barely waking
And tires, gently on wet pavement
As the windowsill drips
And your cup touching the counter, gently clicks

When birds leave us for the sky
They never say goodbye

I want to see the fold of the sheets
Twisted around your legs
The light, grey and soft
No colour in the room
Sounds all dampened
Like cotton in my ears
And your chest rises and falls
Like a feather in the breeze
And I could spend all morning
Watching you breath

When birds leave us for the sky
They never say goodbye
