about

This song was written about the small town hipster culture of Nanaimo circa 2005 which was comprised of sceneters who needed to get hammered just to stand each other's company. The song references "Friendster" which is an amusing nod to that brief moment in social networks, pre-MySpace, pre-Facebook.

lyrics

I picked up a brand new cancer
I found them hiding on your Friendster
I liked their hair, I suddenly felt
We had to meet , they wore a white belt

Honestly, do you find joy in this
Drinking because people are poisonous

When I go out the antidote
Is wearing a tight denim coat
Everyone who hates me will brag
They know the boy with messenger bag

Honestly, do you find joy in this
Drinking because people are poisonous

Need a girl with retro T
And a tight, white belt...

There’ll be 20 bright young chaps
in ironic trucker caps
Getting drunk and making passes
At girls who wear plastic rimmed glasses

Honestly, do you find joy in this
Drinking because people are poisonous

Need a girl with retro T
And a tight-white belt...

Fashion's more precious than soul
It remains when passion grows cold...
