about

This was written for the same girl from "You're Never Coming Back To Bed". She lived in another city, Calgary, and we'd been set up by a friend through email. Before we'd met in person, I wrote this presumptuous song. It's oddly prophetic about the aspects of my personality that would doom the relationship (see the albums "Depleted" and "Crushed" for more details).

lyrics

For ten thousand days
I've been waiting for something
Some kind of ache
Some kind of sting

I've been secluded and cloistered
Grey and hollow inside
Like the shell of an oyster
Pearl lost to the tide

What is this ache?
That swells from the blue
It's been ten thousand days
That I've been waiting for you

My world has been shadows
For ten thousand days
My reality cast
On the walls of a cave

How dark defines the light
As the yang does the yin
You showed me the pearl
I had hidden within

What is this ache?
Illusion or truth?
It's been ten thousand days
That I've been waiting for you

Fate offered me you
and told me I can't touch
The sweet and bitter ache
Has almost become too much
The day I can hold you
This ache will melt away
And I've only been waiting
Ten thousand days

For ten thousand days
I've been waiting to live
I've taken my share
With nothing to give

But I feel reborn
Into your hidden world
As I place in your palm
A shimmering pearl

What is this ache?
That swells from the blue
It's been ten thousand days
That I've been waiting for you
